Sagnik is a Kolkata-based filmmaker. He grew up Dhanbad, Jharkhand amid a rich blend of cultures and narratives. An avid cinephile and voracious reader from a young age, he drew early inspiration from both literature and film.

Before pursuing filmmaking, Sagnik trained as an architect at the L.S. Raheja School of Architecture, Mumbai, becoming a licensed architect in 2019. His professional journey has taken him across Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Early training in art and painting, combined with his architectural background, honed his precise eye for composition, design, and visual storytelling.

Cinema, however, remained a constant. As a child, he made short films—one drawing the attention of acclaimed director Kabir Khan. While producing architectural videos and documentaries during university, he refined his filmmaking and editing skills. His micro-shorts Ode to My Beloved and Run-In received warm appreciation.

With close collaborators Tushar Chandra and Rohit Ranjan, Sagnik co-founded Studio Ronin, producing nine short films to date, and co-hosts 2B1B, a podcast on film and pop culture.

In 2024, his sci-fi short Visionary screened at ten festivals worldwide, winning multiple awards, securing distribution via Pocket Films, and earning praise from critic Baradwaj Rangan. That year, his psychological drama The First Step also won accolades for editing and narrative structure.

His most ambitious work, Acts of Kindness, a tense social drama starring prominent Bengali actors, is currently on the festival circuit.

Influenced by auteurs such as Kurosawa, Ray, PTA, and Nolan, Sagnik blends emotional resonance, visual precision, and narrative authenticity to bring underrepresented voices—especially from his homeland—to the screen with depth and cinematic power.
